TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY OF YEAR C:
7th October 2007
Fr Frank writes:
From today to next Saturday I shall be leading a parish pilgrimage to Poland. During the pilgrimage we will
be celebrating Mass in Krakow Cathedral (where John Paul II was Archbishop before his election as Pope), in
Nova Huta, Tyniec Abbey and Czestochowa, the home of the famous ikon of the Black Madonna, 'Queen of
Poland'. You will all be remembered in our prayers.
Needless to say, I am indebted to Deacon Kevin and our Eucharistic Ministers who will be maintaining the
liturgical life of the parish in my absence.
May Our Lady of Czestochowa pray for you, and may our loving God bless you.
Fr Frank

Parish News:
- Blessing of St Augustine's: My thanks to the many people who contributed to this
successful and inspiring event. Fr Frank.
- St Augustine's Church Grounds: I would be interested to hear from any volunteer who
would be willing to keep the church garden and car park tidy. Unglamorous but essential work! Fr Frank.
- New Votive Candle Stand: you may have noticed that this has appeared by the side of the
image of Our Lady in St Augustine's. It has been donated by our parish's branch of The Walsingham
Association. My thanks to them for adding to the beauty and prayerfulness of our church in this way.
- Thanks from KSC: to all parishioners for their generous support of the retiring collection
for the worthy cause of Farleigh Hospice.
- The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA): teaching sessions for adults wishing
to be received into the Church at Easter 2008 begin at 8pm on Friday 19th October at St Augustine's. If you
would like to be enrolled on the course, please speak to either Fr Frank or Deacon Kevin.
- To all young people who live in Chelmer Village: Are you looking for somewhere to go or
something to do on Friday evening? You could try: TGIY (for young people aged 11+ from 7.00 to 8.15pm) or a New
Youth Club for those aged 14 + which runs from 8.30 to 10.00pm. Both at the Church of Our Saviour. Why not turn
up and give it a try?
- St Augustine's Open Church Weekend: the new church will be open for visitors on the
weekend of 27/28th October. There will be displays and flower arrangements designed to show the life of the
church. Members of church organisations have been approached, but if you feel you have been ignored and you
would like to put up a display, please let me know. Help with welcoming, and serving tea/coffee and
refreshments would be good too. Fr Frank.
- Fair Trade: next Sunday there will be a Fair Trade stall after all Masses. Please support
the parish's efforts to promote Fair Trade.
- Day out in Winchester 3rd November: leaving St Augustine's at 7.30am with Mass in the
Cathedral's Lady Chapel at 11am. Depart from Winchester at 5pm - plenty of time for Christmas shopping!
Cost £15 per person.
- Grand Draw tickets: will be handed out over the next 2 weekends. We are asking every
family to take 20 books to buy or sell to others. This is one of our major fundraisers of the year and it would
be great to match last year's total. Many thanks. Cath.
