THIRTIETH SUNDAY OF YEAR C:
28th October 2007
Fr Frank writes:
This weekend our parish church has been open to visitors. There have been many and varied comments about the
outside of the building - some complimentary, some otherwise. Many more people will, this weekend, have been
enabled to see the inside. I'm sure they will like what they see. I think it's a wonderful building and
believe we can be justifiably proud of our achievements.
My thanks go to all those who have delivered invitations, have prepared the church and the various displays,
and those who have helped on the day - serving tea/coffee and generally offering a warm welcome.
This week sees the beginning of November (Brrrrrrrrrr!). Envelopes for the Month of Holy Souls are
available. These will be placed on the Altar at St Augustine's during Mass, and before the tabernacle at
other times. May the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace.
May God richly bless you.
Fr Frank

welcome.
- The Canonesses of the Holy Sepulchre in Colchester: would like all parishioners to know
that, on the Feast of Christ the King, Sunday 25 November 2007, they will celebrate the Eucharist and Final
Profession of Sr Alice at 2.30pm in the church of St James the Less and St Helen, Priory Street, Colchester.
This will be followed by tea next door in Cardinal Bourne Hall and, if they would like, Evening Prayer at
5.30pm. All would be most welcome to come.
- Help inspire young people in our parish!: The Brentwood Catholic Youth Service offers an
evening of training to help us prepare for National Youth Sunday:

Thursday 8th November 7.30 - 9.00pm Our Lady of Good Counsel, Wickford.

resources to help us to celebrate National Youth Sunday on 25th November. More details from 01277 265286 of

- Grand Draw and Tombola: We would be very grateful if parishioners could return all sold or
unsold Grand Draw tickets as soon as possible. We have had very few back. We also need prizes for the Raffle
and small items for a Tombola stall. The Grand Draw and the Tombola is replacing the Annual Bazaar so we need
to raise as much money as possible. Many thanks for your continued support. Cath.
- Mothers' Prayer: This is a meeting for all mothers who would like to pray for their
children and the children of the world. Mothers' Prayer is an international organisation and our local
meeting is at St Augustine's Church on the 1st Friday of every month from 1-45 - 2.45pm and will be led by
Janet Hoare. I've found this meeting to be a blessing as I unload my burdens to God and join in dynamic
prayer for the world's children. Do come along on 2nd November. Ruth Sermon.
- Buy a Chair: The total raised at the time of writing this is £3,195.00 or 64 chairs.
We are just over half way to our target of 120 chairs (i.e. £6,000). If you would like to buy a chair in
memory of a loved one, forms are available after Mass.
- Anglia Singers: A concert is to be held at St Augustine's on Saturday 10th November at
7.30pm to raise funds for the new extension in conjunction with the Hospice for Children with Disabilities. The
programme includes music from Les Miserables, the Lion king and composer's music to include Coates and
Rutter to name a few. We would love to have your support as well as to enjoy an evening of music, entertainment
and relaxation. Tickets £6 for adults and £3.50 for concessions from J Clark on 01245 264961 or Fr
Frank on 465333. Your support is appreciated.
- Alpha Course at Chelmer Village: we are running this course in conjunction with our
friends in the Anglican/Free Church Community at the Church of Our Saviour. The course begins on 4th November.
If you need more information, contact either Rev Jon Sermon (601662) or Janet Hoare (346900). Why not come
along and give it a try? Fr Frank
