PENTECOST SUNDAY:
11th May 2008
Day of Prayer for the Church
Catholic Deaf Awareness Week
Fr Frank writes:
Today we celebrate the feast of Pentecost, a feast which marks a new and significant point in the life of
the early Church. Only after receiving the gifts of the Holy Spirit were the Apostles fully equipped to carry
out the evangelistic mission of the Church. So significant is Pentecost that many refer to it as the birthday
of the Church. This is not quite correct, as Jesus had been preparing The Twelve from the moment of their
calling - but, rather like our initiation into the Church and our own faith pilgrimage, what we see here is an
unfolding. That is not to deny its significance, however. The Apostles were totally transformed - a real
metanoia (which is the calling of each one of us). This wonderful Feast offers us great encouragement as we,
with the grace of the Holy Spirit, seek to serve Christ powerfully in our own time.
May you be filled with the Holy Spirit's gifts.

Ten Commandments of Marriage for Men (continued):
- Marriage is when a man and woman become as one. The trouble starts when they try to decide which
one.
- Before marriage, a man will lie awake all night thinking about something you say. After marriage, he will
fall asleep before you finish.
- Every man wants a wife who is beautiful, understanding, economical, and a good cook. But the law allows
only one wife!
