TWENTY-SEVENTH SUNDAY OF YEAR B
4th October 2009
Deacon Kevin writes:
Dear Parishioners,
During the month of October the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary is encouraged by the Church to be said daily. Under
the guidance of the Spirit of God it is a prayer loved by countless Saints. Our Late Holy Father Pope John Paul II in an
apostolic letter wrote "it blends easily into the spiritual journey of the Christian life". It
has all the depth of the Gospel message in its entirety as we meditate on the Joyful Mysteries, the Mysteries of Light, the
Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries. The Mysteries of Light were introduced by the Holy Father in 2002 / 2003 as
a revelation of the Kingdom now present in the very person of Jesus. They are (1) his Baptism in the Jordan, (2) his self
manifestation at the wedding of Cana, (3) his proclamation of the Kingdom of God, with his call to conversion, (4) his
Transfiguration and (5) his institution of the Eucharist. These mysteries are normally said on Thursdays. We shall be
saying a decade of the rosary after weekdays Masses or Eucharistic Services. Being the 'Year of the Priest' it
gives us another opportunity to pray for our priests and for vocations to the priesthood.

Parish News:
- The Bishops' School is looking for volunteers to help with their Reading Club: each morning to
support children who need extra practice to read well - training is given and it is a great opportunity to be a really
important part of a child's learning. Children who can read better grow in confidence and learning in almost all
other areas of the school curriculum. If you are interested in helping on any or every morning from 8.30am 'til 9.00
please let Mrs. Forte in the school office know. The only qualifications are enthusiasm, time and patience. We are also
looking for some regular helpers for an Art afternoon each Thursday from 1-3pm with our youngest children - same
qualifications apply. I am afraid we do have to check the identity and do a CRB check on all regular helpers in school -
but it is very worthwhile. Please help us if you feel this is right for you. Thank you. Mr. Greg Waters, Head
Teacher.
