THE THIRTEENTH SUNDAY OF YEAR C:
26/27th June 2010
Fr Frank writes:
As I explained at our Sunday Masses on the Feast of Corpus Christi, the new text for the Mass, which is scheduled to be
phased in from Easter next year, recommends that the faithful make an act of reverence before receiving the Blessed
Sacrament of Holy Communion at Mass. A genuflection is normal, but for those who cannot physically manage this a bow is a
good substitute. I suggested that we began the practice at that Feast when we especially and particularly thank God for the
Body and Blood of Christ. Your positive response is very encouraging and I hope, like me, you find this outward act of
reverence brings about a real deepening in your appreciation of the great gift from God which we receive at Mass.
May God richly bless you.
Father Frank
From the Parish:
- Youth Festival at Aylesford, Saturday July 3rd: organized by the dioceses of Brentwood and
Southwark, the day will involve inspirational speakers, activities, fun and games and a youth mass. St John Payne is
arranging transport by coach leaving the school at 9am and returning at approximately 9.30pm. Young people in years 8 to
13 are welcome and should apply to Christine Webb in school or by Email to reserve a place on the bus. The
trip will cost £14 thanks to a subsidy from our parishes.
- Marie Stopes Abortion advert on Channel 4: Please take a handout from a member of the Knights of St
Columba if you would like to register your protest against the above.
- Masses: I am very conscious of the backlog of Masses waiting to be said. Every request is important
but we do give priority where we know there is a particular urgency - illness, recent death or serious problems - and in
the case of multiple requests for the same person we try to spread them out in fairness to everyone. I know you will be
patient and assure you that we do give everyone equal consideration.
-
First Holy Communion Programme 2010/2011: If your child is eligible for receiving First Holy Communion

- That you are a practising Catholic (attending Mass on a weekly basis)
- That your child has been attending the Springfield Parish for at least the past year
- That your child is eligible (8 years of age by 31st August 2011)

Football Wisdom (true, or so they say):
I'd like to play for an Italian club, like Barcelona. Mark Draper.
You've got to believe that you're going to win, and I believe we'll win the World Cup until the final
whistle blows and we're knocked out. Peter Shilton.
I faxed a transfer request to the club at the beginning of the week, but let me state that I don't want to leave
Leicester. Stan Collymore.
