THE SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY OF YEAR C:
24/25th July 2010
Day for Life
Fr Frank writes:
Fr Charles will be arriving in our parish on Friday 30th, and will be 'supplying' all parish Masses from 31st
July to the end of August, thus enabling Anne and me to take a holiday, and to lead the parish pilgrimage to Bavaria. Fr
Charles is an old friend to many in the parish. If you haven't already had the opportunity of entertaining him during
one of his stays here, do offer him a meal or take him out for a trip. I know you will all make him welcome, and I know I
can safely leave the parish in his caring hands.
May God fill you with every good gift.
Father Frank
From the Parish:
- Derek Ellis RIP: You will be sorry to hear of the death of Derek in Broomfield Hospital last Sunday.
May he rest in peace. Pray for the repose of his soul and for the comfort of Carol, his daughters Sarah and Hannah and
all those who mourn his loss.
- Papal visit: The parish has been allocated 80 pilgrim places for the Vigil in Hyde Park on Saturday
18th September and 16 places for the Birmingham Mass (including the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman) on
Sunday 19th September. Any parishioner who wishes to attend must give the following information (for security reasons):
Name, Title, address including Postcode, contact number, mobile number and e-mail. Your full details can
be completed on lists provided after all Masses. If more apply than our required number the names will be drawn by Fr.
Frank. Those going as a couple or as a family will be a one block entry. Arrangements are being made by the Dean, Fr.
Peter Connor, with the diocese to arrange coaches going to Birmingham to be boarded at St John Payne School, where there
will be free, but limited parking. Please share a car if you can.
Each pilgrim going to Birmingham is asked to contribute £25. This will include the cost of the
coach, the Pilgrim Pass and Pilgrim pack. Pick up point St. John Payne School.
The contribution for Hyde Park is £10.00 per person which will include the Pilgrim Pass and
Pilgrim pack together with a London central zone Travel Card. No concessions for children, senior citizens or unwaged.
Any queries to our Papal Visit Coordinator, Cath Lyons on 460783.
- Reverence at Mass: There seems to be some confusion as to my invitation to make a reverence before
receiving the host. The instructions in the Missal do not say that we should genuflect, but that we should make a sign of
reverence - this could be a bow of the head for those unable to genuflect. Also, for now, this is only an invitation -
but an important one as it is part of our staged preparation for the new missal. Any problems/concerns do let me
know.
- Mass at New Hall: from Sunday 25th July and until work has been completed in the Chapel, Sunday Mass
will be celebrated in the Chaplaincy Centre (AKA The Barn, the Pastoral Centre - right at the top of the avenue). Cars
can be parked to the left and right and also in front of the Chaplaincy. Please follow instructions. Many thanks. Fr
Frank.
- Date for your diary!: Our annual Parish dinner will take place on Saturday 4th December at the usual
venue - details to follow in the Autumn.
- The Mid Essex Deanery invites you to a talk on Cardinal John Henry Newman: given by Fr Frank on
Friday 10th September 8pm at St Augustine's. This will be a wonderful opportunity to learn yet more about the man
prior to his beatification by Pope Benedict. All welcome.
From the Diocese:

8pm to celebrate his 7 years as Director and Chaplain of the Diocesan Youth Service. Fr Dominic is leaving BCYS this
