FOURTH SUNDAY OF YEAR B:
28th/29th January 2012
Homelessness Sunday
Fr Frank writes:
This week we celebrate the feast of The Presentation of the Lord (also known as the Purification of the Blessed Virgin
Mary in our older Missals). In times gone by this feast was celebrated as the end of the Christmas season. It commemorates
the time when the infant Christ was presented, by Mary and Joseph, at the Temple. This occasion gives rise to a beautiful
prayer called the Nunc Dimittis - these are the works spoken by Simeon as he received the Christ child in his
arms. Simeon recognises the baby as the Messiah (in Greek, Christ) and prays in thankfulness because God has blessed his
life in this way. He knows that this wonderful experience can never be surpassed in this life, and so prays that he can now
die happy: Now, O Lord, you can dismiss your servant in peace, for you have fulfilled your word and my eyes have seen
your salvation which you display for all the people to see (Lk 2:29-31). May our Eucharist be for each one of us a
real meeting with Christ.
May the Lord who comes to us in the Mass, bless you now and always.

London. Also good quality used clothing for the Farleigh Hospice Shops (raising much needed money for our local Hospice).
Please keep items for Providence Row and Farleigh Hospice separate. Many thanks in anticipation of your generosity.
- Reverence before Holy Communion: the Bishop, who celebrated Mass at New Hall last Sunday, expressed
concern about the number of people genuflecting before receiving Holy Communion. He feels that a bow would help the flow

norm' in England and Wales.
- Joint Management Committee work day at St Augustine's Sat. 3rd March 10am - 1pm: Many hands make

will be very much appreciated.
